Reflective Foster Parenting (RFP) provides an overarching approach to understanding and helping traumatized children. RFP underscores the importance of the mental states (thoughts, feelings, and intentions) of foster children and how they relate to the children’s behavior. A reflective foster parent helps the child to identify, organize and use words to express their confused thoughts, feelings and needs. The four aims of RFP are to improve: attachment relationships, emotional control, ability to deal with frustration, and awareness of others’ perspectives.

Dr. Richard J. Delaney is an internationally known speaker and trainer. He has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loyola University of Chicago.
