Our camp is inspired by the great work of the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, Dr. David Cross, and the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). This intervention model has been applied successfully in a variety of contexts, and with many children for whom other interventions have failed.
The Rooted Families Rooted Communities Camp uses the TBRI model to emphasize the integration of the following principles:
  • Empowering Principles (felt safety, nutrition, hydration, sensory processing and self-regulation)
  • Connecting Principles (attachment, healthy touch, engagement strategies and playful interaction)
  • Correcting Principles (life value terms and IDEAL response)
The ultimate goal of our camp is to help families and children develop meaningful connections with one another and learn to understand and meet needs. Learning self-regulation skills will allow children to not only survive but ultimately thrive at home and in life.

Family expectations:
  • All family members are required to participate in camp, including caregivers.
  • Children attending camp should have just completed kindergarten through 5th grade (typically between ages of 6-12), and families should include at least one child who has experienced foster care, kinship care, or adoption (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please let us know your unique family needs). We also have limited openings in our preschool class for siblings ages 0-5.
  • Caregivers will attend 6 hours of online sessions that will lay a foundation of TBRI, explain the goals and expectations of camp, and provide opportunity to meet the other families coming to camp.
  • Families are committed to bringing your children every day, as long as it is safe to do so and there are no illnesses.
  • Camper drop-off will be at 8:45 each day and caregivers are expected to stay for training and connection sessions. These sessions will help you to understand the skills your kids are learning at camp and how to implement them at home. We will provide coffee, snacks, and lunch.
  • We will accept family applications until the application window closes on April 30th. At that time, we will carefully review and select families to be accepted into the camp based on multiple determining factors.
  • If your application is selected, you will receive an acceptance email and an additional registration form to be completed. This includes media release and emergency contact information and is required for all campers to ensure we provide a safe and fun experience for all. Applications that are not accepted may be added to a waitlist in case circumstances change.
  • Cost: $250 per camper: cost includes t-shirt, snacks, lunches, all camp supplies, and TBRI Caregiver Training materials.
  • Scholarships ARE available and we will not turn away a family for inability to pay! email us at info@rootedfc.com to apply for scholarships
