Offering Safe Homes for LGBT Youth Seminar: Considerations for Becoming a Foster Parent

Oct 26
Saturday, October 26, 2024 – 8:00am
8:00am - 10:00am

The LGBT Network and Suffolk County DSS are partnering for an informative virtual session exploring the vital role foster parents play in providing temporary, safe, and nurturing homes for children in need. More than 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT. Many end up in the foster care system and remain in congregate (group) homes because of the lack of safe, LGBT-affirming foster homes.

For these kids, the need for compassionate foster families is crucial. In this brief educational program, you'll learn how the foster care system works here in Suffolk County, about the invaluable responsibilities and benefits of fostering, and how to become a foster parent for a child in need. Whether you're considering becoming a foster parent or just seeking more information at this time, this session will equip you with the knowledge and tools to make a lasting difference in a child's life.
