Please join us for this special training opportunity, Know Your Rights: An Intro to Education Law and the Barriers of Fostered and Adopted Students in the School System, provided in collaboration with Youth, Rights & Justice.

In the training, we will cover an overview of education law and the rights and responsibilities of schools, parents, and students, as well as the challenges that fostered and adopted students face as they navigate both the foster system and school system.

About the Presenter

Jawan Mullen, Staff Attorney, is a Rose City native, with deep roots in the Portland Metro area. He earned his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2020. During his legal career, he has been both a criminal defense attorney and prosecutor. Jawan joined Youth, Rights & Justice in June of 2023, and has since led the Parent Advocacy for Student Success program, aiming to reduce the achievement gap while simultaneously advocating for students to remain students and as far away from the criminal justice system as possible.




Training provided in collaboration with Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center, Oregon Adoption Resource Exchange, Oregon Department of Human Services and Youth, Rights & Justice.
